Welcome
My interest is materials and mechanics. The fundamental question, or the biggest one I keep asking, is how small particles (atoms or molecules) arrange themselves in different ways and exhibit different properties. The current understanding is that if atoms orderly packed, whatever how, they do not want to be apart unless the temperature is sufficiently high (melting point). However, if they are randomly packed, whatever how, they are so uncomfortable that they want to change the way of packing at the temperature much lower than the melting point. The different characteristics of atoms, or their packing, lead to rich mechanical and physical properties awaiting for us to explore. If this interests you, please consider join my group for sometime.
Research student and staff openings
I will have a few PhD and research staff openings on materials technology, design optimization, and micromanufacturing. I am looking for students with background in materials, mechanics, physics, optics, and mathematics to work in the following areas:
1. Glass science and engineering
2. Soft matter and microswimmers
3. Mechano-chemical modeling of diffusion-reaction in materials
Please send me your CV and a brief description of your interest. For the applications for PhD/Mphil, please visit PolyU admission to check the requirements.
